What Documents Do H2A Workers Need for Car Finance in South Africa?
By George Leonard · H2A Wheels · 5 July 2026 · 5 min read
The number one reason H2A workers get declined for vehicle finance is documentation — not income, not credit. Standard dealerships ask for the wrong documents and reject applications that should be approved. Here is exactly what you need when applying through H2A Wheels.
The Three Documents You Need
1. Three months' bank statements
Your most recent 3 months of bank statements — the account where your H2A wages are deposited. These must show the actual income deposits from your US employer or payroll processor.
What counts as acceptable:
- Official stamped bank statements from your SA bank
- Electronic bank statements downloaded from your banking app (PDF format)
- Statements showing dollar deposits converted to rand
If your statements show irregular deposits due to seasonal patterns, don't worry — we know how to present H2A income to banks in a way they understand and accept.
2. South African ID document
Your green SA ID book or smart ID card. A clear photo or scan is sufficient — you do not need certified copies unless a specific bank requests it during the process.
3. South African driver's licence
Your valid SA driver's licence card. Again, a clear photo is acceptable to start the application. A vehicle finance application requires a valid licence for the primary applicant.
What You Do NOT Need
This is where most dealerships fail H2A workers. They ask for documents that H2A workers cannot provide. H2A Wheels does not require any of the following:
- Rand-based monthly pay slips from a South African employer
- SA employer letter or employment confirmation
- Proof of permanent employment
- A letter from your US employer (though it can help if available)
- Physical presence at a dealership or bank branch
Optional Documents That Help (But Aren't Required)
If you have any of the following, they can strengthen your application — but your application will be submitted without them if you don't:
- Your H2A work contract or offer letter from your US employer
- Proof of previous H2A seasons (helps establish income consistency)
- A letter from your US employer confirming your position and wage
- Your US bank statements if SA statements don't clearly show income source
How to Send Your Documents
H2A Wheels accepts documents in any of the following ways:
- WhatsApp — Send clear photos or PDFs to George on 082 619 2893. This is the fastest method.
- Email — Send to george@h2awheels.co.za with your name and the vehicle you want in the subject line.
- Online application — Use the apply form and upload your documents there.
There is no need to visit an office. Documents received via WhatsApp can have an application submitted to banks the same day.
What Happens After You Send Your Documents
H2A Wheels reviews your documents, prepares the application package, and submits to up to 9 finance institutions through our dealer partner network. Most applications receive a response within 24 to 48 business hours. If additional documents are needed, George contacts you directly to explain exactly what is required and why.
Frequently Asked Questions
What documents do H2A workers need for car finance?
Three documents: 3 months' bank statements showing H2A income, a South African ID, and a South African driver's licence.
Do I need a rand pay slip?
No. H2A Wheels uses your bank statements to verify your H2A dollar income correctly. Rand pay slips are not required.
Can I send documents via WhatsApp?
Yes. Send your documents to George on 082 619 2893. Clear photos or PDF scans are accepted.
My bank statements are irregular due to seasonal work — is that a problem?
No. H2A Wheels understands seasonal income patterns and knows how to present them to banks correctly. Irregular deposit timing is normal for H2A workers and does not automatically disqualify your application.
